At Katie g. Jewellery, we've embraced the three Rs - reduce, reuse, and recycle - as our eco-friendly mantra. This guiding principle allows us to craft stunning pieces while minimising our impact on the planet and giving back to the Earth in every step of our process.

Recycled Gold: A Green Choice

We source our gold from Österreichische Gold und Silber Scheide Anstalt (ÖGUSSA) in Vienna. This foundry sources old jewellery and coins, but also technical equipment which contains gold. The metal is then extracted, cleaned and refined to be used in jewellery. The quality is identical to new gold, but it has the added benefit of being reused and repurposed.

The Benefits of Recycled Gold

Choosing recycled gold was an easy choice for us for several reasons:

Industrial mining uses harmful chemicals that can never be truly contained. They jeopardise the lives of workers and harm our planet. By using recycled gold, we do not need to contribute to a destructive mining industry and put anyone or anything at risk.
There is less demand for new mines to be created when you use recycled metal; this means we can protect our planet from harmful digging and fight against unethical mining practices.
We repurpose recycled gold locally, which cuts down on our transport emissions. We save hundreds of gallons of fuel each year while combating climate change.

By embracing recycled gold, we're not just reducing our environmental footprint, we're actively advocating for a cleaner future.

Locally Produced Jewellery: Creating Beauty Close to Home

Our jewellery is made in Austria, with some work being done in Germany. The short distance ensures minimal resources are used during transportation. We also handpick our collaborators to make sure they share our passion for sustainable practices.

We have built a trusted network of reputable goldsmiths, engravers, and stone setters in and around Vienna who do their part to make the Earth greener.

Diamonds that shine with clarity and conscience

We know our clients want diamonds to be ethically sourced and beautiful. That is why we work with certified local dealers.

For natural diamonds, we work with a fully certified local stone dealer who operates under the Kimberly process to ensure that the diamonds are sourced from conflict-free territories.

Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds are another popular choice. They may be made in a lab, but they are 100% real diamonds. No mining is necessary, and they are also much more affordable than natural diamonds, especially in larger sizes.

The lab grown diamond producer we work with uses carbon offsetting practices to produce their stones. This means that for every diamond sold a tree is planted to compensate the carbon emitted during production. Within 3-4 years the carbon that was produced during production is fully compensated. All of the lab-grown diamonds featured in Katie g. jewellery come from a carbon-neutral facility.

Repurposed Diamonds and Stones

Furthermore, we also offer repurposing services to help transform stones from heirloom jewellery into a new design. You can bring vintage pieces to our atelier in Vienna for a free consultation, and we will let you know how we can work with the stones you would like to use.
